HZDR Innovation Contest
With the HZDR Innovation Contest, we offer transfer-oriented scientists and technicians a unique opportunity to further develop their ideas in an application-oriented manner in a guided program and in exchange with other teams. Including pitch training, coaching and jury feedback.
The Postdoc Center is the central point of contact and service point for all questions relating to the promotion of early career researchers after their doctorate. Young researchers are advised on decision-making and career planning – both in terms of career paths within and outside academia. The Academia, Business and Science Management career paths are available for this purpose.

The Patent Information Center (PIZ) Dresden is our partner for offers and questions in the field of industrial property rights, such as patents, trademarks and designs.
Start-up consulting
In accordance with the exploitation guideline, the HZDR supports spin-offs in the pre- and early post-foundation phase. Both the HZDR Innovation Managers and HZDR Innovation GmbH provide support. Our consulting services are supplemented by offers from our start-up-promoting partners in Dresden and Saxony, e.g. the HTW Dresden (“Start-up-oriented introduction to business administration – How to start a start-up!”) or dresden | exists (e.g. “Workshop Business Idea Development”, “Life Tech Lab” ect.).
Product sales
As a spin-off of the HZDR, HZDR Innovation GmbH is responsible for the product management and sales of marketable innovations from the HZDR. This includes active sales, trade fair participation and product presentations in print, web and B2B.

HZDR Innovation Fund
The HZDR Innovation Fund supports validation and spin-off projects of the HZDR with a total volume of EUR 400,000 per year.
IP Management
IP Management (Intellectual Property Management) provides support in the legally compliant and commercial exploitation of research results.
R&D contracts
Industry is a profitable client for science and supports application-oriented research. We provide support in bringing together reputable industrial partners and drafting legally compliant contracts.
Licenses
License models enable researchers to exploit their results without major financial risk, but with financial gain. We provide advice and support in drafting contracts.
Start-up consulting
Successful examples show: scientists can also set up a company and run it economically without neglecting their research. We provide advice on paths and opportunities and arrange supplementary programs as well as valuable partners (contacts).
HZDR Innovation Labs
Since 2020, the HZDR Innovation Labs have been independently operating research and development units that conduct research in close cooperation with companies. They pursue specific, application-oriented questions that correspond to the profile of the HZDR. They provide a low-threshold exchange between research and industry, from which future-oriented business models are to be developed as a team.
Validation funding
Saxony’s validation funding, which is provided by the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport (SMWA) together with the SAB, aims to evaluate the exploitation potential of innovative scientific research at a low threshold. With this state funding for the expansion of research transfer, Saxony is setting an example. Researchers benefit from 18 months of support from experts.
