Workshop: “Poster design effective visual communication of scientific data” (2/2)
Workshop: “Poster design effective visual communication of scientific data” (2/2)
What is Data Visualization?
Visualizations are widely used, in figures, slides, or posters, to communicate scientific data. Visual communication strategies are however not regularly part of university curriculae or trainings. In the workshops participants learn how to recognise common fallacies of scientific plots and how to avoid these. D ifferent chart types are introduced and discussed in detail, along with their use and misuse, and principles of ethical data display. In addition, the key design principles that make visualizations clear to wide audiences are introduced: from effectively adding text as title, legend, axis label, to gestal principles and layout considerations, and color choices. Exercises are used to turn sad plot exam ple s into better versions of themselves and participants are indrocuced to resources for chart selection, visual information design, and color selection, including designing for accessibility.
Note: Participants have to take part in both workshops!
