2nd HZDR Transfer Day

HZDR showcases innovations at the 2nd Transfer Day

Radiant winners, inspiring lectures, and lively discussions – the second HZDR Transfer Day on January 28, 2025, brought together over 80 scientists, transfer managers, and innovation enthusiasts at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR). They took the opportunity to exchange ideas across disciplines and gain new impetus into technology transfer. The event aimed to showcase the center’s diverse transfer activities and highlight the societal relevance of applied research.

The event kicked off with several impulse lectures and a keynote speech by Prof. Karl Leo, Chair of Optoelectronics at TU Dresden. The highly acclaimed physicist and inventor of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) provided fascinating insights into his journey from researcher to entrepreneur. Following this, HZDR scientists Dr. Tino Gottschall and Dr. Sebastian Reinecke illustrated in their presentations how different paths can lead to successful technology transfer.

After a short break, a special highlight followed: the festive opening of the transfer exhibition „From Research to Application“. This new permanent exhibition in the foyer of the lecture hall building vividly showcases technologies developed at HZDR that have transitioned into different products and services. It also provides an overview of the application-oriented research areas in which the center is active. In addition, a “Wall of Fame” pays tribute to the people behind the transfer successes.

Finally, the HZDR Innovation Contest awards ceremony took place. The HZDR Board of Directors recognized promising transfer ideas with the potential to enter the market. The first prize of 1,500 euros was awarded to Mohd Saif Shaikh, Dr. Shengquiang Zhou und Dr. Yonder Berencén for their transfer project on compact optical dual-band sensors based on silicon for telecommunication applications.

Research and transfer go hand in hand – together, they open up new opportunities for cooperation and strengthen economic growth. By the end of the second Transfer Day at HZDR, everyone involved could agree on this.
